Mmmmh, isn't shorthand becoming more and more popular? Especially in business (Lazyness and time saving *lol*)? In this magazine you find a lot of examples for short e-mails or text messages.

or:
OMG! Flght l8 ETA 10: lol! RUOK?

Gosh, I need more time to think about what is the meaning than I need for reading the normal written sentence.
